LeBron James is known for his composure, but even he has his limits. That limit was tested Thursday night when he spotted Stephen A. Smith courtside. Instead of brushing things off as usual, the 6’9” superstar walked straight up to Smith and delivered a firm, one-sided call-out. It wasn’t a debate, it was LeBron making his stance loud and clear.
Gilbert Arenas adds fuel to fire
Stephen A. addresses courtside confrontation with LeBron James at the Lakers-Knicks | First Take
The next morning on First Take, Stephen A. addressed the incident but chose to keep the finer details under wraps. What he did reveal, however, was enough to fuel the fire. “LeBron approached me during the game and said, ‘Stop effing with my son,’” Smith admitted, his only reaction being a stunned, “Na, Na, Na.”
Meanwhile, Gilbert Arenas, never one to sit on the sidelines when drama unfolds, jumped into the mix with his signature humor. Taking to Instagram, he cracked jokes about the situation, writing, “My new boss man, he just signed his money man down at the goddam n game trying to enjoy himself. And you want to be Akron all of a sudden, huh? Just straight, Ohio. Just coming out of front all these white folks.”
Is Stephen A. Smith Gilbert Arenas’ “New Boss”?
Arenas calling Smith his “new boss” wasn’t just for laughs. Recently, he appeared on First Take as a guest analyst, igniting speculation about a permanent role. Sensing an opportunity, he played right into it, captioning his post,“@kingjames I love this Energy but not my new Potential Boss 😂 We not playing that Run up on us when I get Hired, we ready to die for these TAKES.” (via: EssentiallySports)
While it was all in jest, Arenas genuinely admired LeBron’s fiery attitude. In his eyes, this version of LeBron screams championship mindset. “That’s the energy you coming with? We winning the championship! Ten toes down now, we winning the chip with this type of energy, baby,” Arenas said, laughing.

Arenas has long taken issue with media personalities reducing NBA stars to their accolades. One of his biggest gripes? Stephen A. Smith’s claim last year that Jaylen Brown wasn’t a “marketable player.” Arenas fired back, saying, “You are not important. You are a vessel for information. You are a preacher, not God.”
Smith, never one to back down, had his own response: “Get the hell over it. It doesn’t happen.” He even took it further, publicly challenging Rashad McCants. “Rashad McCants, yeah, we’ll talk bro. I can’t wait for that conversation… the second I get an invite, the second I have time, we’re going to have those conversations,” Smith declared.
Gil’s Arena wasted no time extending that invitation. Now, after months of tension, the long-awaited showdown is finally happening. Smith recently confirmed, “I have had numerous people who wanted me to come on their podcast… but I told them to wait. I got to do Gil’s Arena first.”
And the moment is closer than ever. “I’ll be calling Gil tonight or tomorrow… I’m trying to come on sometime next week,” Smith added.
The most anticipated face-off is just days away. Gilbert Arenas, his crew, and his “potential boss” are gearing up for a clash that NBA fans won’t want to miss.
