OpenAI has updated its AI assistant ChatGPT that brings a new memory feature. Announcing the new feature on X (formerly Twitter), the company said “Starting today, memory in ChatGPT can now reference all of your past chats to provide more personalized responses, drawing on your preferences and interests to make it even more helpful for writing, getting advice, learning, and beyond.?Hours before the announcement, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared an X post where he wrote: “a few times a year i wake up early and can't fall back asleep because we are launching a new feature? “Today is one of those days!,?he added.

What is new memory feature on ChatGPT

OpenAI has enhanced ChatGPT's memory capabilities for its Pro and Plus subscribers. The feature allows the AI chatbot to recall and reference all previous conversations with a user. This upgrade allows ChatGPT to provide more personalized and context-aware responses by remembering user preferences and past interactions. While the memory feature is not new to ChatGPT, the update allows it to retain information users explicitly ask it to remember.
Further, users have control over this memory functionality. They can manage or delete stored memories at any time by navigating to Settings > Personalization > Memory. They can also opt out of the memory feature all together and can switch to ‘Temporary?chat.
Sam Altman said that with the upgrade, the company has “greatly improved memory in ChatGPT--it can now reference all your past conversations!? adding that it is a great feature and “points at something we are excited about: AI systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized.?br/>As mentioned above, the upgraded memory has started rolling out for Pro users and will soon be rolled out to Plus users.
