Having spent 27 years in showbiz, Nupur, who is known for her roles in films such as Saawariya, Kyo Kii...Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Pran Jaaye Par Shaan Na Jaaye, and TV shows like Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, Phulwa, and Reth, took sanyaas in February 2022, renouncing worldly pleasures to embrace spirituality. Reflecting on her decision to walk away from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, in an interview three years ago, she shared with us, “After embracing sanyaas, I immersed myself in visiting pilgrimages and helping those in need. Spiritualism has always been a part of my life, and it was only a matter of time before I fully devoted myself to it. I feel incredibly blessed to have found the right guru, Shambhu Sharan Jha, thanks to my time with CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes Association), where I worked as a committee member and conducted health workshops. It was through this platform that I met my guru, and another master healer, which significantly changed the course of my life.”
She added, “The passing of my mother in December 2020 was a turning point. I realised I no longer feared losing anything. I felt liberated from expectations and duties. My decision to take sanyaas was further delayed by my brother-in-law (Kaushal Agarwal) being stranded in Afghanistan when the Taliban took control, but once that situation settled, I knew it was time for me to step into this new phase.”
She also addressed misconceptions about her spiritual journey. She said, “I don’t know why people think I must be emotionally devastated or tired of life to make this decision. One doesn’t have to hit rock bottom to walk the spiritual path. In fact, the lockdown period helped me detach and made the decision much easier.”
