COIMBATORE: A leopard strayed out of the reserve forest early on Friday morning and entered a farmhouse area at Onapalayam village near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district in search of goats. The same leopard killed four goats at the farmhouse on March 1.
The carnivore attacked four goats that were tied up in the pen at a farmhouse located at Onapalayam village near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district around 1.12am on March 1.
The farmhouse was located at least one km away from the reserve forest. The leopard could not get away with the kills as the goats were tied up in the pen. The carnivore left the carcasses in the pen itself.
These incidents were recorded on a CCTV camera fixed at the pen. Following the incident, the forest department placed a cage with meat to capture the leopard.
The same leopard visited the farmhouse in search of goats around 12 am on Friday. The forest department is going to shift the cage to the pen from the agricultural field.
Forest department officials said that around four goats were locked inside the room during evening hours to prevent the leopard attack.
