Panaji: Admitting that "pitfalls" in the umbrella scheme for local industries led to poor interest in the incentives, the directorate of industries, trade and commerce announced that it is in the process of tweaking the schemes to make them more attractive.
Speaking at a buyer-seller meet organised by CII for MSMEs, industries secretary Suneel Anchipaka on Friday said that govt is modifying the umbrella scheme of incentives so that women-driven enterprises, particularly self-help groups, can benefit from it. "There are some pitfalls in the umbrella schemes of the department, and we are actively working with industry associations to find out what the industry needs and to modify and amend the entire scheme. We want to focus on women and bring SHGs under the umbrella scheme. We will be able to notify this (new incentives) in no time," he said.
Addressing industries, Anchipaka said that state govt is converging local schemes with central schemes to make incentives attractive for MSMEs. The directorate of industries, trade and commerce conducted a buyer-seller meeting under the RAMP scheme in 2024. "The objective is to provide market linkages for MSMEs who are in the global ecosystem. If we can provide such an environment or ecosystem, only then will it be viable for new or existing MSMEs to create products and market them to larger companies," said Anchipaka.
He also urged local MSMEs to collaborate with global companies so that products that meet global standards are manufactured in Goa and supplied to international markets. Along with the umbrella scheme, the Union govt is also giving incentives and schemes for the promotion of the MSMEs.
Recently, industries minister Mauvin Godinho held a meeting with the director of industries,
NABARD, the panchayat department, and Assocham Goa Council to identify reasons for the lack of interest in govt schemes. The minister also called for inputs to make the schemes relevant for MSMEs. At the meeting, special emphasis was given to promoting women's entrepreneurship and sustainable development initiatives.
