Fire disrupts operations at Raichur Thermal Power Station
Raichur: A fire erupted in the fourth unit of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) located in Shaktinagar on Sunday, resulting in significant damage and the subsequent shutdown of the unit.
The blaze, which originated in the power transformer, spread quickly. Despite the efforts of the unit's workers to extinguish the flames, they were unable to bring the situation under control. The transformer was gutted, and other equipment sustained damage, according to sources.
The full extent of losses caused by the fire remains unclear, and RTPS officials are currently conducting an investigation. As a precautionary measure, the 210 MW power generating unit was taken offline. At this time, one of the eight units at RTPS was non-operational, while three others were undergoing maintenance, leaving only three units actively generating electricity.
In addition, the second unit of the Yaramaras Thermal Power Plant (YTPS), also located in Raichur, ceased production. As of now, RTPS has not released an official statement regarding the fire incident or its implications for operations. The situation continues to develop as officials assess the damage and plan for the future of the affected units.
