In the 2023 polls, it will be a contest between the two leading parties in the state: Congress and BJP. In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress secured a decisive victory by winning 68 out of the 90 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 15 seats.

Congress's victory marked a change in government in Chhattisgarh, ending the BJP's 15-year-long rule in the state. Congress's Bhupesh Baghel was sworn in as the chief minister of the state.
