Breaking down Trea Turner’s deal with Phillies

On December 8, 2022, the Philadelphia Phillies signed Trea Turner with a 11-year contract, amounting to $300 Million. As per the contract, Turner will get $27,272,727 annually, from 2023 to 2032, and $27,272,730 for the 2033 season.

The most amazing thing about this contract is that there’s no opt-out and full no-trade clause, meaning Turner is bound to the Phillies till the end of his tenure in 2033. He cannot opt out of the team, nor can he take part in any player trading.

Perks and benefits designed for Trea Turner

Apart from the full no-trade clause and no opt-out options, the Phillies have included several monetary benefits for their shortstop. This includes $50,000 each for every time Turner wins All-Star, Silver Slugger, Golden Glove, WS MVP, and LCS MVP.

Turner will also get $500,000 for winning the MVP title. In case he comes in second or third, the Philadelphia Phillies will award him $50,000 or $25,000 respectively.

Trea Turner’s performance after joining Phillies

The 2023 Phillies team seemed like the most sorted team of the season, with top players from each genre present. The Phillies signed Turner for his speed, thinking his base stealing capabilities will help them win.

Turner did deliver his best with the team, scoring 26 home runs in the 2023 season, with 76 RBIs and a batting average of .266. In 2024, Turner bagged 21 homers, 62 RBIs and had a batting average of .295. Though the 2025 season has been a slow start for the shortstop, Phillies are still betting on him, and have high hopes from the shortstop.
