Ajnala court sends Amritpal’s key aide Pappalpreet Singh to police remand for 4 days
Ajnala: An Ajnala court on Friday sent Pappalpreet Singh, a key associate of Khalistan supporter and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, to four-day remand of Punjab Police.
Pappalpreet, detained in Assam's high-security Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA) alongside Amritpal and others, was brought to Amritsar on Thursday night after his NSA detention expired. A small gathering of relatives and supporters assembled outside the court, hoping to see or speak with him.
Rituraj Singh Sandhu, Pappalpreet's counsel, stated that the police sought a 10-day remand, citing the need to investigate old cases and recover mobile phones and data. Sandhu added that the police aimed to use the remand to trace mobile phones, identify funding sources, and uncover additional accomplices.
On March 21, seven other NSA detainees — Basant Singh of Daulatpura Ucha, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala, Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi alias Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha, and Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh—were produced in the Ajnala court after being transferred from Dibrugarh. Amandeep Singh, who was arrested locally, was also presented. The court initially remanded them until March 25, which was later extended to March 28. Subsequently, three, four, and one detainee were sent to judicial custody in Patiala, Bathinda, and Amritsar, respectively, said Sandhu.
Pappalpreet's NSA detention expired on April 8, while Amritpal's is set to end on April 22, Sandhu said.
The case stems from an incident on Feb 23, 2023, when Amritpal and his supporters allegedly attacked the Ajnala police station, using a "saroop" of Guru Granth Sahib as a shield, to secure the release of their associate, Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan. A case was registered on Feb 24, 2023, under sections 307, 353, 186, 332, 333, 506, 120-B, 427, 148, and 149 of IPC at Ajnala police station.

Mother hopes for early release
Mandhir Kaur, Pappalpreet's mother, said that her son joined Amritpal Singh, to combat drug abuse. She had not seen him since his detention in Dibrugarh and only caught glimpses of him through media reports upon his arrival in Amritsar. She mentioned the difficulty of traveling to Dibrugarh but expressed relief that communication would now be easier. Kaur asserted that the police found no incriminating evidence against her son and expressed hope for his swift acquittal.
