Jamshedpur: With Holi coinciding with the second Friday of Ramzan, the East Singhbhum district administration has beefed up security measures by splitting the district into 13 super zones, each of which will be supervised by a magistrate and eight inspectors.
SSP Kishore Kaushal and SP (City) Kumar Shivashish on Wednesday held foot patrolling with the forces in the minority community populated Mango area. Briefing the PCR patrolling squad, Shakti police, QRT, and Tango jawans (bike patrolling police) about their specific tasks at the CCR building campus, SSP Kaushal said that the primary task of the police was to ensure that peace and order prevailed on the day of festivals.
Besides, 120 magistrates have been deployed across 36 zones. Local police have been directed to coordinate with zonal magistrates for effective supervision of the law-and-order machinery. Police and civil administrative officials identified 15 sensitive areas.
Security forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Rapid Action Police (RAP), have been deployed in areas, where mixed populations live. Further, 22 checkpoints have been set up at the inter-district and inter-state borders, besides the intersections within the urban circle to maintain vigil on motorists, particularly miscreants driving bikes and cars in an inebriated state. Those riding bikes with modified silencers or flouting the speed limits would be dealt with strictly, police said.
In addition to 3,000 policemen, over 500 police personnel are being mobilised from other districts. ADM (law and order) Aniket Sachan has been appointed in-charge of security operations, while sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) would be in charge in their respective areas.
Besides, 108 ambulance would be stationed at six points — Sakchi roundabout, Mango chowk, IDSP office building, Post Office chowk in Bistupur, Rankini temple chowk in Kadma, and railway fatak chowk in Jugsalai — on March 14 and 15.
March 14 has been declared as a dry day.
