Govt takes possession of Elstone Estate land, township works to begin today

Kozhikode: The state govt has taken possession of the land at Elstone Estate for the construction of the model township for rehabilitation of Wayanad landslide survivors. The construction works for the township would begin on Saturday.
The Wayanad district collector acquired the land under Disaster Management Act following Friday's high court order. Previously, the govt had deposited Rs 26cr in the account of the high court registrar general as per the high court's directive. Additionally, as per Friday's order, an amount of Rs 17.7cr was ordered to be deposited.
The district disaster management authority convened a meeting and decided to deposit the amount and acquire the land. The govt erected a board after acquiring 64.4 hectares of land and surrounding areas in Kalpetta village block 19, re-survey number 88 on receiving the high court order on Friday night.
