In the 2008 Vidhan Sabha elections, Ashok Kumar Khajuria of BJP won with 15,907 votes (50.72%), with Narender Singh of INC as the runner-up, receiving 5,474 votes (17.45%), and an independent candidate, Sanjay Mahey, receiving 3,885 votes (12.39%).
Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote counting scheduled for October 8.
