Kokernag (ST) Assembly Election Results 2024

The Kokernag Legislative Assembly constituency, located in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, has experienced notable electoral contests, showcasing shifts in voter preferences and party strengths over the years. In the 2014 elections, Kokernag had a total of 86,825 electors, with 57,415 valid votes cast. Abdul Rahim Rather of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious, securing 24,284 votes. His win was significant, as he defeated Peerzada Mohammad Syed of the Indian National Congress (INC), who received 19,713 votes. Rather's victory margin was 4,571 votes, underscoring his strong performance in that election. Looking back at the 2008 elections, the Kokernag constituency had 71,118 electors, with a total of 50,030 valid votes cast. Peerzada Mohammad Syed of the INC won the seat with 13,384 votes. His nearest rival, Gulam Nabi Bhat of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC), received 12,114 votes, making the margin of victory 1,270 votes. This election highlighted Syed’s significant support base in the region. In the 2002 elections, the constituency had 57,743 electors, and a total of 8,817 valid votes were cast. Peerzada Mohammad Syed of the INC won the seat with 3,356 votes. He defeated Gh Rasool Malik of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 2,920 votes, resulting in a narrow victory margin of 436 votes. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will take place in three phases: the first on September 18, the second on September 25, and the final on October 1. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8. These elections mark the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir's reorganization as a Union Territory, as well as the first in a decade.
