Gurez Assembly constituency
Gurez Assembly constituency, one of the 90 constituencies in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, is set to be a key battleground as the state prepares for upcoming elections. Nestled in the northern region of India, Gurez is part of the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency and is reserved for candidates from Scheduled Tribes.
In the 2014 legislative assembly elections, Nazir Ahmad Khan of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) secured victory with 6,664 votes. He narrowly defeated Faqir Mohmad Khan of the Indian National Congress (INC), who garnered 6,523 votes. This win marked a consecutive triumph for Nazir Ahmad Khan, who had also emerged victorious in the 2008 elections. During that election, Khan secured 5,817 votes, while his rival, Faqeer Ahmad Khan of the INC, received 5,085 votes.
As Gurez heads to the polls on October 1 in the third phase of the election process, the eyes of many will be on this constituency. The outcome, along with the results from the other 89 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, will be announced on October 8.
