Sopore assembly constituency
Legislative Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled from September 18 to October 1, 2024, with results to be declared on October 4, 2024. The Sopore Assembly constituency, designated as constituency number 8, is located in the Baramulla district and is part of the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. The elections will occur in three phases: the first on September 18, the second on September 25, and the final phase on October 1, with vote counting on October 8. In the 2014 elections, Sopore had 31,945 voters, including 17,446 males and 14,499 females, with 18 postal votes cast. This was an increase from the 2008 elections, which had 18,019 voters. Abdul Rashid Dar of the Congress won the Sopore seat in 2014, defeating PDP’s Nazir Ahmad Naikoo with a margin of 2,755 votes. Major political parties in the constituency include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC).
